Great Wine Voyage comes to Adelaide

19 May, 2017

On 30 April 2017, more than 100 guests participated in the Great Wine Voyage that took place as part of 2017's Tasting Australia festival.

The event celebrated Adelaide, South Australia's membership to the Great Wine Capitals Global Network by presenting some of South Australia's finest varieties alongside international counterparts.

Guests were able to tour a handpicked selection of Adelaide's finest bars and restaurants spanning the East end of the city to the West, with each bar representing one of the Great Wine Capitals of the World. At each bar two ‘blind' tastings were poured, challenging guests to identify which wine was produced locally and which was produced internationally. The wines were revealed at the end of the Great Wine Voyage when all parties united at Tasting Australia's Town Square.

Key wine identities, both international and local, were on hand to guide guests through their voyage and talk to them about the different great wine capitals – a feat Adelaide, South Australia now officially boasts.

Amongst these key wine identities was the Network's own Catherine Leparmentier Dayot from Bordeaux, as well as Catherine Heywood, Director of Operations and Community Relations at Visit Napa Valley, and Ana Lopezcano, Director of Wine Tourism at Bodegas Muga, a historic winery from the La Rioja wine region.

The three international visitors were in Adelaide, South Australia as part of a broader program that allowed them to experience Adelaide's premium food and wine tourism, while sharing experiences with South Australian wine, food and tourism industry members. This knowledge sharing enables local industry members to benchmark themselves against international standards, leading to diversification and innovation in South Australia.
