Cellar Doors seeing growth

Winery cellar doors are making more money for small Aussie wine labels, with new research suggesting cellar door sales made almost a third of small winemakers' incomes in 2015-16.

According to the Small Winemaker Production and Sales Survey 2016 by Wine Australia, small winemaking businesses saw a 12 per cent increase in sales revenue. Retailers and wholesalers generated 47 per cent of income, but cellar doors saw the most growth, accounting for 27 per cent of revenue. Cellar door events have proven to be effective at reaching new customers and building a database of clients.
